Italian musical terms - A great many musical terms are in Italian. It shouldn't be surprising that so many musical terms are Italian, since many of the most important early composers in the renaissance period were Italian, and that period is when numerous musical indications were used extensively for the first time.
Renaissance humanism - Renaissance humanism was a European intellectual movement beginning in Florence in the last decades of the 14th century. Its focus is on human dignity and potential, and it values art and the senses over the Biblical values of humility, introspection, and passivity, or "meekness" that had dominated European thought in the previous centuries.
American Renaissance - In the history of architecture, the American Renaissance was the period ca 1880 - 1914 (often thought to have begun with the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge), characterized by renewed national self-confidence and a feeling that the United States was the heir to Greek democracy, Roman law, and Renaissance humanism. The American preoccupation with national identity (or nationalism) in this period was expressed by modernism and technology as well as academic classicism.
Italian Renaissance - The Italian Renaissance began the opening phase of the Renaissance, a period of great cultural change and achievement from the end of the 14th century to about 1600. Although its origins trace back to the earlier part of the 14th century, many aspects of Italian culture were largely Medieval and the Renaissance did not come into full swing until the end of the century.
