What Charlie Parker was to the saxophone, Bud Powell (1924-1966) was to the piano: no jazz pianist can rival his brilliance. But the tragedy of his life is equally matchless in the annals of jazz: he endured a brutal beating on the head by the police as a youth; electroshock therapy in psychiatric institutions; physical 1950s dance and mental abuse from people who fed him dangerous drugs to control him; malnutrition 1950s dance and tuberculosis; and, most painful of all, the indifference of his contemporaries to his talent. Two of the stories received Pushcart prizes, "Nosotros" appearing in Pushcart XVI 1950s dance and "Whitewing" in Pushcart XVII. "What the Thunder Said" will appear in the 1993 edition of Best American Short Stories.

Royal Scottish Country Dance Society - The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS), was founded in 1923 as the Scottish Country Dance Society by Jean Milligan and Ysobel Stewart of Fasnacloich, who wanted to preserve country dancing as performed in Scotland, country dancing having fallen into disuse after the influx of continental ballroom dances such as the waltz or quadrilles and, later on, American-style dances like the One-step or foxtrot. (The SCDS didn't become the RSCDS until the early 1950s.
